[PATCH] appliance: move virt-rescue welcome to /etc/issue
by Cédric Bosdonnat
To allow easier downstream tweaks to the virt-rescue welcome message,
just output the content of the /etc/issue file in the appliance.
Thus, a new extras.tar.gz file appeared in supermin.d containing
the etc/issue file and future tweaks like this one.

[PATCH 0/2] supermin: use /etc/os-release
by Pino Toscano
Hi,
let's make supermin use /etc/os-release as primary source instead of
the various release files in /etc; apparently distros (e.g. openSUSE)
are starting removing them.
Thanks,
Pino Toscano (2):
Add simple handling of /etc/os-release
Use os-release to detect the distro

[PATCH v2 0/7] v2v: first bits of Debian/Ubuntu guests supports
by Pino Toscano
Hi,
this series implements the first bits in v2v to convert Debian/Ubuntu
(and derived) guests. The series does not complete the support (see
known issues below), but all the patches here should be fit for review
and inclusion. The series does not enable the conversion, yet.
Known issues:
* there is no grubby nor Bootloader::Tools Perl module available in
Debian, so there is no way to know what is the default kernel;
parsing the Grub2 configuration is not exactly an easy task either
* currently tested with simple local guest images, hence needs testing
with real guests on libvirt/VMware/Xen/VirtualBox/etc (which have
various tools to be removed/tweaked)
* is tweaking the "enterprise-linux" module the correct/wanted way?
should it be renamed to just "linux" then?
* surely something else I'm missing
Changes from v1:
- rebased on master
- dropped patch #8, will be solved in a different way
- adapted patch #4 to the Linux_bootloaders module
Thanks,
Pino Toscano (7):
v2v: refactor Linux.remove
v2v: add basic support for the "deb" package manager
v2v: linux: identify Debian-based distros as `Debian_family
v2v: add /boot/grub/grub.cfg as Grub2 config
v2v: linux: check also kernel config for modules
v2v: linux: check the kernel package name for Debian
v2v: linux: adapt initrd name for Debian

guestfs_launch gets stuck
by Baochuan Wu
Hello everyone,
I am using libguestfs on CentOS 7.2. I am trying to modify Red Hat 5.4
disks. I am using C/C++. I found the process gets stuck
inside guestfs_launch:
Thread 1 (Thread 0x7fe3aa6148c0 (LWP 1265)):
#0 0x00007fe3a9032c20 in __poll_nocancel () from /lib64/libc.so.6
#1 0x00007fe3aa1e5ea4 in read_data () from /lib64/libguestfs.so.0
#2 0x00007fe3aa20af0c in guestfs_int_recv_from_daemon () from
/lib64/libguestfs.so.0
#3 0x00007fe3aa204ae0 in launch_libvirt () from /lib64/libguestfs.so.0
#4 0x00007fe3aa1fab2b in guestfs_impl_launch () from /lib64/libguestfs.so.0
#5 0x00007fe3aa196b4d in guestfs_launch () from /lib64/libguestfs.so.0
#6 0x00000000004116f8 in main ()
It is very easy to reproduce this issue. Does anyone has any idea about
this issue?
Here is output of libguestfs_test_tool:

[PATCH] build: improve distro check
by Pino Toscano
Use /etc/os-release as first option, translating the distro name to the
current identifier used. The other options (the release files) are left
as following checks, avoiding them if any matches.

Please try this version:

What's the actual error?

They are included in virt-v2v at the link above.

Yes virt-v2v can install drivers. You need the virtio-win package
from RHEL 7, since the WHQL'd drivers are not freely redistributable
(or at least, the situation is complicated).

virt-df lists disk usage of guests without needing to install any
software inside the virtual machine. Supports Linux and Windows.

Help, it's not working!
by Sa Kh
Hi,
*1. What are you trying to do?*
I was trying to clean up a virtual machine image in place. I followed the
instruction in the Openstack documentation to do so. Here is the link:
http://docs.openstack.org/image-guide/ubuntu-image.html
*2. What exact command(s) did you run?*
virt-sysprep -d trusty
*3. What was the precise error or output of these commands?*
Examining the guest ...
Fatal error: exception Guestfs.Error("/usr/bin/supermin-helper exited with
error status 1.
To see full error messages you may need to enable debugging.
See http://libguestfs.org/guestfs-faq.1.html#debugging-libguestfs")
4.*Enable debugging, run the commands again, and capture
the complete output. Do not edit the output.*
