issue when building/making package from git
by arnaud gaboury
I am trying to build/install libguestfs from git. My box is Archlinux,
GCC 4.9.1 and all dev tools installed.
If I manually
$ gitclone gitUrl
$ cd libguestfs
$ ./autogen.sh
$ ./configure --someOptions
the build goes until the end and leaves me with binaries.
------------------------------
---
Now I want to install it properly on my machine. Arch use a makepkg
[1] command to build and install packages not in the official repos.
When running
$ makepkg
I have this structure which sounds correct:
libguestfs-git/pkg/
libguestfs-git/src/AllNeededDir_cloned_here
but at one time the build breaks with these errors:
-----------------------------
../src/.libs/libutils.a(
libutils_la-cleanup.o): In function `guestfs___cleanup_xmlBufferFree':
cleanup.c:(.text+0x79): undefined reference to `xmlBufferFree'
../src/.libs/libutils.a(libutils_la-cleanup.o): In function

collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
Makefile:1598: recipe for target 'virt-p2v' failed
-------------------------------------
I can't figure out why the binaries build manually and not using
makepkg(). The only things I see are CFLAGS and LDFLAGS passed to makepkg().
Here are part from /etc/makepkg.conf:
------------------------------
CPPFLAGS="-D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2"
CFLAGS="-march=x86-64 -mtune=generic -O2 -pipe -fstack-protector
--param=ssp-buffer-size=4"
CXXFLAGS="-march=x86-64 -mtune=generic -O2 -pipe -fstack-protector
--param=ssp-buffer-size=4"
LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1,--sort-common,--as-needed,-z,relro"
#-- Make Flags: change this for DistCC/SMP systems
MAKEFLAGS="-j 8"
#-- Debugging flags
DEBUG_CFLAGS="-g -fvar-tracking-assignments"
DEBUG_CXXFLAGS="-g -fvar-tracking-assignments"
------------------------------
Is there any flag which can prevent to build libguestfs?
I even tried to add some more flags regarding xml2 (not sure it is
worth) but it didn't change.
------------
-I/usr/include/libxml2
-lxml2 -lz -ldl -lm
------------------------
Thank you for any suggestion.

About the return value of value_value
by Peter Wu
Hi,
I have been working on a Python application that uses hivex. Meanwhile I have
encountered some Python bindings issues which could be fixed.
The next issue I see now is about the value_value function. This is briefly
documented as: "return data length, data type and data of a value".
For Perl, Python and OCaml, this is not true. A tuple is returned for both
without the length (as this can be calculated from the data value). Ruby is
the outlier here that uses a dictionary with three keys. I am not familar with
Ruby and neither do I know Ruby users of hivex.
The documentation should likely be fixed to exclude the length, but what about
the Ruby API? Is it correct or should a documentation note be added that Ruby
differs
Kind regards,
Peter

[PATCH] df: unlock retire_mutex on early exit

If pthread_cond_wait fails and the thread worker ends, make sure to
unlock retire_mutex, which has been locked for the condition.
The return value of pthread_mutex_unlock is ignored, as there's nothing
that can be done with it at that point.

[PATCH] daemon: blkid: fix memory issues in "no -p/-i" mode
by Pino Toscano
Fix the memory issues in the implementation that uses no -p nor -i:
- use add_string_nodup to add results from get_blkid_tag (which returns
new strings), so those strings are not leaked
- use free_stringslen to clean the hash on error, as in such case the
stringbuf will not be terminated with a null entry, thus causing
free_strings to crash

[PATCH] daemon: initialize memory when handling DeviceList params
by Pino Toscano
When dealing with DeviceList parameters, the generator produces code
similar to the following:
CLEANUP_FREE_STRING_LIST char **devices = NULL;
[...]
devices = malloc (sizeof (char *) * (args.devices.devices_len+1));
{
size_t i;
for (i = 0; i < args.devices.devices_len; ++i)
RESOLVE_DEVICE (args.devices.devices_val[i], devices[i],
, goto done);
devices[i] = NULL;
}
The block hidden within the RESOLVE_DEVICE macro is supposed to
assign something to devices[i]; on the other hand, the code in
RESOLVE_DEVICE can cause to just end (with an error) the current RPC,
which would cause the cleanup of the "devices" array... whose members
from the i-th to the (args.devices.devices_len-1)-th would be garbage
pointers, causing random memory to be free'd (and thus crashing the
daemon).
Avoid the access to garbage memory just by having a cleaned "devices"
array, so there will be always a NULL element after the initialized
members.
Add a test for vgcreate which passes a wrong device path causing the
situation above, to test that vgcreate would fail gracefully.

[PATCH 0/2] Fix (minor) bugs found by Clang static analyzer
by Peter Wu
Hi,
Here are more fixes for bugs caught my Clang static analyzer. Two bugs are
remaining, namely a memleak in the perl bindings. I am not an expert in that
area and did not manage to fix it in a correct way, so I will just describe it.
The ASetValues and ASetValue functions call a function which allocates memory.
The generated code puts this before PREINIT. Then there is the typemap for
hive_h object. This code can return if the validation fails which causes a
memleak.
So, could some Perl programmer pick this up?

Silence dead assigmnents/initialization/increments
Avoid calling calloc(0, x)
