There seems to be a problem with EPEL repo libguestfs-1.0.85-1.el5.5 rpm (x86_64) - for example it is very slow with VM filesystem copy as it does not make use of KVM acceleration (running plain qemu). > Running libguestfs-test-tool reveals that libguestfs is looking for /dev/kqemu and ofcourse its not there in case of CentOS/RHEL (5.4). Im not yet entirely sure why it does not use KVM - but I guess it can be missing from build already. We are trying to rebuild src rpm on CentOS 5.4 but encountering still some (probably dependency) problems. > Does this help? http://libguestfs.org/FAQ.html#slow Rich. -- Richard Jones, Virtualization Group, Red Hat http://people.redhat.com/~rjones libguestfs lets you edit virtual machines. How can I change exit on error behaviour in remote control mode ?
by Qixiang Wan 31 Mar '10

31 Mar '10

Hi, all: In remote control mode of guestfish, the server will normally exit if there is an error in a command. guestfish man page said if we prefix a command with a - character, then that command will not cause guestfish to exit, but this doesn't work in remote control mode, seems the prefixal '-' in sub-command won't be handled by guestfish. -------------- $ eval `guestfish --listen` $ guestfish --remote version major: 1 minor: 0 release: 85 extra: $ guestfish --remote -- -lvs -lvs: unknown command $ guestfish --remote version guestfish: remote: looks like the server is not running -------------- any idea for this?

As described here previously: https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2010-March/msg00129.html Here is the three part patch to reimplement virt-win-reg to support exporting and merging Windows Registry entries in the 'regedit' format. The hosting for this is being moved, so the site will be down at some point on 2010-03-31 (this Wednesday) for some hours. This affects libguestfs git and some virt tools: http://git.annexia.org/ Rich. -- Richard Jones, Virtualization Group, Red Hat http://people.redhat.com/~rjones libguestfs lets you edit virtual machines. appliance/make.sh won't update when re-configure with new mirror (or updates) url
by Qixiang Wan 29 Mar '10

29 Mar '10

Hi, all: When I re-configure in the source directory, and then make the build. It will use the previous urls of mirror and updates which I specified via --with-mirror and --with-updates. for example: the previous command line I used is: 1. $ ./autogen.sh --with-mirror='http://wrongurl/fedora/os/' --with-updates='http://wrongurl/fedora/updates' --with-repo='wrong_repo' 2. $ make Then I want to make the build with new mirror and updates url: 1. $ make clean 2. ./autogen.sh --with-mirror='http://righturl/fedora/os/' --with-updates='http://righturl/fedora/updates' --with-repo='right_repo' 3. $ make I can see the following line in the output of step 2: --- configure: running /bin/sh ./configure --disable-option-checking '--prefix=/usr/local' '--with-mirror=http://righturl/fedora/os/' '--with-updates=http://righturl/fedora/updates' '--with-repo=right_repo' --cache-file=/dev/null --srcdir=. --- but the febootstrap command which is generated during step 3 (make ) still use the previous urls: --- + febootstrap -i augeas-libs -i btrfs-progs -i diffutils -i e4fsprogs -i gfs-utils -i gfs2-utils -i hfsplus-tools -i iputils -i kernel -i MAKEDEV -i nilfs-utils -i ntfsprogs -i reiserfs-utils -i libselinux -i udev -i util-linux-ng -i vim-minimal -i bash -i binutils -i coreutils -i dosfstools -i file -i grub -i jfsutils -i lsof -i lvm2 -i module-init-tools -i net-tools -i ntfs-3g -i parted -i procps -i scrub -i strace -i xfsprogs -i zerofree -u http://wrongurl/fedora/updates wrong_repo initramfs http://wrongurl/fedora/os/ --- the appliance/make.sh is not updated during make, so it will use the old one to build ramdisk, is there anything wrong with my steps?

by Richard W.M. Jones 26 Mar '10

26 Mar '10

This is part 1 (updated) and part 2 of the three part patch set to provide tools for merging Windows Registry entries in the 'regedit' textual format. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=575738 Using the low-level hivexregedit tool I was able to merge the registry entries described in the following article into an existing 'system' registry hive file: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314082/ Rich. -- Richard Jones, Virtualization Group, Red Hat http://people.redhat.com/~rjones New in Fedora 11: Fedora Windows cross-compiler. [PATCH] Win::Hivex::Regedit module for importing and exporting regedit format files.
by Richard W.M. Jones 25 Mar '10

25 Mar '10

This is the first part (of three) of a set of changes to support merging Windows Registry entries from the common 'regedit' format. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=575738 This adds a Perl library Win::Hivex::Regedit which supports two functions for importing and exporting the format. I've tested this on some real output from the Windows regedit.exe program successfully. However these files are not well specified, and therefore there are bound to be undiscovered inconsistencies and corner cases. The second part will add a command line tool to hivex for merging a regedit file with a local hive. The third part will involve enhancing virt-win-reg to support this for VMs. Rich. -- Richard Jones, Virtualization Group, Red Hat http://people.redhat.com/~rjones New in Fedora 11: Fedora Windows cross-compiler.
