[PATCH] ocaml: make sure to pass LDFLAGS to ocamlmklibs linker (RHBZ#1624130)
by Pino Toscano
Pass the LDFLAGS properly as arguments for the C linker when using
ocamlmklibs via the -ldopt option.
Followup of commit 34c23403c51a4d59d826c8045e06f9aabc2ceb16.

OpenStack output - server_id
by Fabien Dupont
Hi,
I've read the virt-v2v OpenStack output code to understand how it works and
I've seen this:
> (* The server name or UUID of the conversion appliance where
> * virt-v2v is currently running. In future we may be able
> * to make this optional and derive it from the OpenStack
> * metadata service instead.
> *)
> server_id : string;
Indeed, it can be derived from OpenStack metadata service. The following
URL called from within the conversion appliance will return the metadata:
http://169.254.169.254/openstack/latest/meta_data.json. As you can see, the
IP address is 169.254.169.254, which will is the metadata service. The JSON
body contains a uuid entry that is the current appliance UUID, hence the
server_id used by virt-v2v.
I don't know how to code that in OCaml, so I defer implementation to anyone
with such skills. And by reading the patch, I may learn how to write small
pieces of OCaml and contribute further changes :)

[PATCH 1/2] tools: Link OCaml programs with -runtime-variant _pic if available.
by Richard W.M. Jones
OCaml has a small runtime which is statically linked into the virt
tools (providing things like GC and primitives). Since OCaml 4.03 it
has been possible to select variants of this runtime, one of which is
compiled with -fPIC, using ‘ocamlopt -runtime-variant _pic’.
This has performance implications on i686, but is relatively free on
other architectures. Since it (in theory) adds to the security of the
final binary this commit enables it whenever it is available.

[PATCH 0/2] RFC: --key option for tools

Hi,
the following series adds a --key option in the majority of tools: this
makes it possible to pass LUKS credentials programmatically, avoid the
need to manually input them, or unsafely pass them via stdin.

virt-customize is very slow in ubuntu 18.04/centos 7.5
by Gabriele Baldoni
Hi all,
Sorry for bothering you in this dev mailing list, I'm using libguestfs to
customize some vm using as bases the ubuntu cloud images.
But I noticed that it takes a lot and then fails when trying to install a
packet.
Same behaviour on Ubuntu 18.04 and Centos 7.5
Ubuntu:
virt-customize 1.36.13
libvirtd (libvirt) 4.0.0
Centos:
virt-customize 1.36.10rhel=7,release=6.el7_5.2,libvirt
libvirtd (libvirt) 3.9.0
This is the command I run:
virt-customize --hostname ato_test --uninstall cloud-init --install
ifupdown --run-command 'useradd -p $(openssl passwd -1 pass) fos -s
/bin/bash && mkdir /home/fos && adduser fos sudo' -a test.img
If I run using --no-network is faster, but the install obviously does not
work.
Here the output of the command with debug and trace enabled
$ virt-customize --hostname ato_test --uninstall cloud-init --install
ifupdown --run-command 'useradd -p $(openssl passwd -1 pass) fos -s
/bin/bash && mkdir /home/fos && adduser fos sudo' -a test.img

[PATCH 0/3] v2v: -o rhv-upload: Add a test.
by Richard W.M. Jones
This adds a test of -o rhv-upload.
Obviously for an upstream test we cannot require a working oVirt
server. This test works by faking the ovirtsdk4 Python module,
setting PYTHONPATH so that the fake module is picked up instead of the
real module (if installed).
However it's more complex than that because the nbdkit plugin also
expects to talk to a working imageio HTTPS server. Therefore the fake
ovirtsdk4 module also starts a web server running on a random port
which looks sufficiently similar to a real imageio server to trick
virt-v2v (but any data written is discarded).
This test is designed to pick up only gross errors, such as the one
where we recently shipped a non-working -o rhv-upload mode in RHEL 7.6 LP.

[PATCH nbdkit v3 0/3] Add partitioning plugin.
by Richard W.M. Jones
The partitioning plugin patch is the same (except for rebasing).
However I have changed the first two patches based on feedback
received. In particular this fixes a very serious bug found by Eric
Blake in the current truncate filter.
