As you noted, the answer is this line -- it's running the wrong qemu.
The simplest fix is just to change qemu by setting
LIBGUESTFS_QEMU=/usr/bin/qemu-kvm (see:
http://libguestfs.org/guestfs.3.html#qemu_wrappers)
In broader terms, I think this is an issue with how libguestfs is
built:
