perl 5.10.0 as included in sle11 does not have newSVpvn_utf8, 5.12.3 as
included in openSUSE 11.4 has it.
I'm able to reproduce this using an even older version of Perl (5.8.8
from RHEL 5). This patch fixes it for me:
