Sorry about that, those lines from from upstream v2v. I was just about
to do a new build with this code in, but I noticed we still have a
libguestfs dependency issue to resolve. We should be able to get
something testable out in a couple of days.

It's a scratch build, so it'll only be available for a few days before
it's automatically deleted. You will also require libguestfs from

The v2v package doesn't have any dependency which will require you to
install the new libguestfs, but if you don't install it libguestfs will
fail to launch immediately after the data transfer completes.
Disclaimer: I don't have a system here I can easily test the above v2v
package on, and it has received no testing whatsoever! It's also not
really 0.8.4-1, which is why I've put a suffix on it. That said, I don't
anticipate a problem.

I believe that in the end of this ... try & error process,
we have to make clear the stable (or not) versions of related programs
that actually work on RHEL6 (or even fedora 16) as a workaround for
future references.
Although i understand the rapidly development of tools & libs that are
used in this process,
meaning that some bugs or features can be dissolved only by the latest
stable versions.

The stable & supported versions are the ones in RHEL 6.
The problem is that these stable versions have (fully known and
characterized) bugs and limitations. For example in this case there
is no P2V at all in RHEL yet -- it's scheduled for 6.3. That's why
people are very helpfully testing the Fedora and upstream versions.

I wholeheartedly agree. I would much prefer to sleep at night and do
this with stable, shipping releases of software. Maybe in a few months
. . . The good news is, there are customers willing to trust that we
can make this happen with what is available right now. As long as I
have some guidance, I'm willing to be on the bleeding edge for this one
and then maybe the next P2V scenario will be easier for everyone.
Also, please forgive me if I end up ranting a little bit in this thread.
Lack of sleep. It will all be worth the trouble in the end.

You shouldn't do this, and there is no reason to do it. libguestfs in
Fedora contains everything needed for Windows support in the base
package.

Except that it doesn't. It's missing firstboot.bat and all the other
stuff in /var/lib/virt-v2v/software/windows. The version in
updates-testing that Matt wants me to try might have it, I haven't
checked yet.

that virt-v2v uses.

virt-v2v-0.8.4-1.fc16.mbooth.x86_64.rpm Matt just put together. I'll go
put it in, along with the fedora-testing libguestfs stuff and hopefully

No. The missing files can't be distributed with Fedora. You'll need to
extract them manually from a V2V rpm from RHEL.

No. The missing files can't be distributed with Fedora. You'll need
to extract them manually from a V2V rpm from RHEL.

We just did a successful Windows P2V using the various software pieces Matt and Richard
set up. Fredy is running this VM in a RHEV environment as I type this. I'll start a
new thread with a how-to recipe for anyone else that needs to do a Windows P2V.
Note that the Fedora docs are wrong because they don't mention those v2v files that
cannot be distributed with Fedora. What's up with those files that they can't be
distributed with Fedora anyway?

Yes, although I'm not sure what the latest state of the project is.
If we could distribute rhsrvany.exe, we could make the migration

All I know is, from the field, if anyone tries a Windows P2V with Fedora
and the packaging as it sits today, without following this thread, they
will be in for a rude surprise. The Fedora docs are also wrong.
