In a distribution like Ubuntu, the headers for developing with a library are usually shipped in development packaged named <library>-dev. In the case of libguestfs on Ubuntu, the right package is libguestfs-dev -- you can also check the online resource http://packages.ubuntu.com which helps to find packages available in Ubuntu, and also to locate files shipped. -- Pino Toscano

Better use the package management tools provided in Ubuntu -- apt-get when in terminal, or also the graphical applications provided with the desktop environment (if any). They will do the right job, downloading the packages you want to install and also their dependencies, and making sure everything is installed correctly. -- Pino Toscano
